strangely was only a problem on the facelift models the original mk1 with the plastic side skirts and no water deflectors never had this issue though fords have always been bad for rust, even with there galvanised biody galvanized my rear end they all suffer front and rear wheel arch rust as well as the lowers of the rear doors

I got a 2001 Mk1 Focus and experiencing the same problems. When it first appeared 2 months ago I had the speed sensor replaced and it solved the problem but it is back again and the guys in my garage can't find the problem, checked the speed sensor again, managed to get a new instrument cluster as well, checked the cables etc. but the problem The common cause of this problem is actually replacing the grill and not knowing about the problem until it is too late and you are faced with not being able to open your bonnet. After managing to fix this problem myself with no mechanical experience, a fellow member of this forum fitted a nice new ST grill to his focus found himself in the 1LMQ.
