The loot tiers from weakest to highest are: white (no stats) blue (common), green (uncommon) yellow (rare), orange (exotic), pink (ascended) and finally grape (legendary) at the start the gear has very little effect on your gameplay and you can outright salvage white, blue and green with a basic salvage kit once you wear another piece already.
